Warning Signs of Addiction

No two cases of addiction are exactly the same…

but there are some common signs and symptoms most individuals struggling with addiction will exhibit:

  • Unusual changes in behavior
  • Isolation from typical activities and/or loved ones
  • Red, bloodshot, or glassy eyes
  • Lack of self-care, poor hygiene
  • Changes in sleeping and eating patterns
  • Flu-like symptoms, which come and go
  • Needing more of the substance to feel normal
  • Unusual depression, anxiety, or changes in mood
  • Extreme Defensiveness when confronted
  • Paranoid or suspicious behavior, such as hiding, feelings of shame, and hypervigalence
  • Inability to attend or decrease in performance at work or at school without using the substance
  • Cravings for the Substance, leading to putting self or others in danger
