Covenant Health has been named among “America’s Best Employers” in Forbes magazine, which recently released its 2016 lists of best large and midsize employers. Covenant Health was among only 44 hospitals and health systems in the U.S. to make the lists, which include a total of 750 U.S. companies. In the midsize companies list, Covenant Health was listed seventh among hospitals and health organizations and 50th in the overall list of 250 businesses of all types.

Forbes partnered with statistics firm Statista to compile data from a survey of more than 30,000 U.S. employees. Survey participants were asked if they would recommend their employer to a potential new hire, and they were asked their views about other companies in their industry. Employees were contacted anonymously online without the involvement of their employers, and respondents represented the U.S. workforce by gender, age, region, education, and ethnicity.

“We are very pleased that Covenant Health has been named in this prestigious national list. If there is one factor that is essential to Covenant Health’s success, it is our employees,” said Jim VanderSteeg, Covenant Health president and CEO. “Their expertise and dedication to our organization and to the patients we serve are key to accomplishing our health system’s mission of improving the quality of life in our communities.

“We focus significant efforts on creating a supportive workplace environment with opportunities for professional and personal growth,” he added. “Covenant Health is committed to integrity and excellence in all of our member facilities, and to being the kind of organization that instills pride in our employees.”

Covenant Health was the only healthcare organization in East Tennessee to be included in the lists. Healthcare organizations which made the Forbes lists include Mayo Clinic, Yale New Haven Health, Cedars-Sinai Health System, Kaiser Permanente, Johns Hopkins and Cleveland Clinic, among others.

“Covenant Health has a broad-based approach to being an employer of choice,” said Debi Welch, senior vice president of human resources. “We are nationally recognized for organizational ethics and offer a wide range of opportunities for leadership development and professional advancement. In addition, our employee recognition programs celebrate individual performance, team collaboration and best practices. These attributes help create an outstanding work environment at Covenant Health.”
